Correct an entry

A posted entry is never edited. Correct it with a reversal or a void, then post the right entry.

Why entries can’t be edited

Quietly changing a posted entry would break the audit trail and numbers already reported. In Degresh Finance every correction is recorded as an action of its own, so you can always see what happened and who did it. There are two ways: a reversal and a void.

Reversal

Open the entry and choose Reverse. A new entry is posted with the same lines but debits and credits swapped, cancelling the original’s effect. The original stays, marked Reversed.

Reversal of: Electricity & water · 30 Sep
AccountDebitCredit
Cash at bank — BCA1,250,000.00—
Electricity & water expense—1,250,000.00
1,250,000.001,250,000.00

You can add a Reversal note (optional); left empty, it reads “Reversal of …”. Use a reversal when the original already affected real balances.

Void

Choose Void to mark the entry as never having happened — for example, an entry recorded twice. It stays visible as Voided, but no longer counts in balances or reports.

Use a reversal instead of a void if the entry already affected real balances.

Post the right entry

After the correction, post the right entry. The quickest way: open the original, choose Post similar, fix the amount or accounts, and post.

Corrections and approval

When approvals are on, reversals and voids also wait for another member with Maintain access or higher. Until then the original entry is unchanged. Only one correction request can wait per entry.

When a correction is held back

  • An entry matched in a Finished bank reconciliation can’t be reversed or voided until an admin reopens that reconciliation.
  • A locked period doesn’t change: corrections always arrive as new entries, never as edits inside it.
